Top official of the opposition Ginbot 7 Movement Ginbot 7 Movement, Andargachew Tsige, has been detained by Yemeni officials while transiting via Yemen, ESAT Television has reported. ESAT quoted Ginbot 7 as saying that there have been ongoing undisclosed discussions with Yemeni officials to get Andargachew released, however Yemeni officials have been stubborn to release him.
Ginbot 7 Movement, which is chaired by an Ethiopian Economics Professor based in the U.S. and is considered to be one of the most strongest and most feared opposition movements outside Ethiopia, has threatened to take revenge measures “if Andargachew is transferred to Ethiopia, where he could face psychical, life and psychological harm, the relations between the two countries could be affected and we will take revenge measures on Ethiopian officials.” the presser stated.
Andargachew Tsige has been serving as the Secretary General of the Movement since it was founded in 2008. He is popularly known for his action and practice orientated activities within the Movement and the opposition in general.
A few months ago Ethiopian government apparently employed some members of Kenyan security forces to kidnap two members of delegation of ONLF who were in Nairobi to negotiate with Ethiopian government delegates with the invitation of Kenyan government.
In March 2014, Ethiopian securities had abducted two senior mediators from the Ethiopian rebel group ONLF mediators from Kenya. There whereabouts has not been known as of yet.
