(Borkena) Unconfirmed reports from Addis Ababa claim that Ethiopian government put another journalist behind bar earlier today.
A journalist identified as Elias Gebru was apparently called to report to “investigation” department where is told that he will remain in custody with no right for bail.
What appears to be a pretext to the arrest is related to his writing which government believed has caused “death to many people.”
According to sources that broke the news, Elias’ article was published in “Enqu” , one of local magazines, some time in March of this year.
No detail is given regarding the allegation of “death of many people.”
Recently, dozens of students who were disenchanted by Addis Ababa Master plan were massacred in different parts of Ethiopia.
The crackdown on journalists in Ethiopia is worsening in recent months. Many journalists now live under the shadow of fear of arbitrary arrest.
Apart from tens of journalists who are behind bar under folly “terrorism”charges for years now, the government of Ethiopia detained three journalists along with six member of Zone9bloggers in late April 2014.
